In Flanders Fields
~ John McCrae ~
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Since there is no external evidence that a child that has been aborted ever existed a woman gets to choose a flower during the abortion recovery retreat to represent her baby. This is a very important step of the recovery because, along with other specific and important aspects, the woman comes to the much needed realization that her baby was real and that he or she had a soul and a purpose.
When Adriana was given the option to choose a flower for her child she initially declined, not believing it was a necessary step. A few months later, however, she was driving home from an abortion recovery retreat and felt the Lord nudge her about picking a flower. The nudge seemed unusual as the Lord began by bringing to her memory a poem she had long loved. Given that it had been a while since she read it, and she could no longer recall all the lines, she pulled over into a near-by park and looked it up on-line. Adriana always thought that she loved it because she had been a military wife for many years and it revealed her patriotism. It turns out God had different plans and had been preparing her for this special moment.
As she read the poem, she sensed the Lord whispering to her, “ a poppy.” Not understanding, she continued to read and then she saw it! The third stanza is exactly what she felt she was being commissioned to do. Adriana was to take up this quarrel with the enemy. God spoke to her about the civil war that our society is engaged in and of the outrageous number of casualties our babies have become. She understood that if we don’t fight their battle, they would all have died in vain. She believes the Lord has shown her that all aborted children are soldiers that died on the altar of convenience, but their untimely death doesn’t have to be completely pointless.
God is raising up an army of wounded mothers and fathers to fight, and win, this nonsensical war.
If you have been touched by the pain and trauma of abortion, we urge you to pick YOUR flower and join us in this fight.
Receiving healing and telling our stories so others don’t repeat our mistake, is the best way to do it.
